Caribbean Guilder

The Caribbean guilder is the currency of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Since March 31, 2025, it has replaced the Antillean guilder. The value and exchange rate of the new currency remain unchanged. The guilder is still pegged to the US dollar, which ensures stability and prevents its value from fluctuating with economic changes on the islands.

Why the Caribbean Guilder?

In 2010, the Netherlands Antilles was formally abolished, and Curaçao and Sint Maarten became separate countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. However, both countries continued to use the Antillean guilder, which caused practical problems. For example, after the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, it became difficult to exchange the Antillean guilder abroad. The new Caribbean guilder solves this problem. In addition, the new banknotes are more resistant to counterfeiting.

The Caribbean guilder is more modern and secure, with a design inspired by the underwater world. Fish swim freely without boundaries, symbolizing the unity that Curaçao and Sint Maarten share within the monetary union.
